From Humble Beginnings to Himalayan Heights: The Vision of Nabraj Ghimire
Our story begins over 25 years ago, when a young boy, Mr. Nabraj Ghimire, arrived in Kathmandu from the mountains with dreams of higher education. While pursuing his bachelor’s degree, fate led him to his first job in a trekking company – as a porter.
Time has moved swiftly forward, but Nabraj’s memories of those early days remain vivid. He vividly recalls his first steps through the iconic Thorong La Pass and the serene Manang Valley as a porter, carrying loads for trekkers. It was this profound journey, witnessing the highest mountains of the Annapurna Circuit firsthand that ignited a spark within him. This experience, combined with his subsequent years gaining invaluable knowledge as a porter and then a guide, inspired him to build something of his own in the very area that had shaped him.
Driven by this vision and a deep love for his homeland and its people, Nabraj Ghimire officially founded Good Karma Trekking in 2010. As the company grew, Nabraj also finished his Master’s degree in Humanities and Social Science from Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu. Today, he lives happily with his family in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, and continues to make people’s travels safer and easier, drawing from his rich and diverse experiences
Nabraj’s interest in travel blossomed, leading him to explore dozens of countries around the world. His journeys took him not just across the vast landscapes of Himlayas but also to continents further afield, This extensive global exposure enriched his understanding of diverse cultures and the international travel industry. His passion for the mountains and mountaineering also led him to author a book, “Base Camp,” a heartfelt gift for Nepalese readers, sharing insights into the world of mountains and mountaineers. His passion for exploration and contribution continues unabated.

- 2010: The Birth of Good Karma Trekking Good Karma Trekking was officially established, born from Nabraj Ghimire’s extensive experience and passion for the Himalayas. This marked the beginning of our commitment to personalized service and authentic adventures.
- 2011 – Present: Growing Our Global Family Since 2011, we have proudly served thousands of tourists from all corners of the world. Our market continues to grow, a testament to the trust and satisfaction of our clients who seek genuine Himalayan experiences.
- A Commitment to Nepal’s Future While many of Nabraj’s contemporaries sought new lives abroad in places like Australia or Canada for their families, Nabraj chose to root Good Karma Trekking firmly in Nepal. His aspiration is for his two children, Sanskirti (9 years old) and Yug (4 years old), to one day become tour planners or Everest guides, continuing to run and nurture this beautiful brand and name within the family. This commitment reflects his profound love for his company, community, and fellow Nepalese people, and his dedication to creating job opportunities right here in Nepal.
- Good Karma Foundation Nepal: Giving Back Our success is intrinsically linked to our social responsibility. Good Karma Trekking is proud to have established the Good Karma Foundation Nepal (GKF), our dedicated sister concern. We believe in sharing our success, and therefore, 10 percent of Good Karma Trekking’s profits are directly invested into the foundation’s works for the sustainable development of Nepal. Through GKF, we actively support local communities, including schools and monasteries, fostering education and well-being.
