Trip Overview

What is Nepal popular for? The most probable answer will be tall mountains, peaks, and hills, which is the right answer. Yes, Nepal is known for the land of Mount Everest and seven other eight-thousanders. Not only that, but there are also numerous other peaks that are high enough to touch skies. In very simple words “Nepal is a blessed country with the world’s highest and most beautiful mountains”. Having that said, this is so fair to say “ The ultimate destination for every mountain adventurer in the world is Nepal”.

Lobuche Peak climbing Informations.
From highest Mt Everest(8,848m) to smallest Gokyo Ri(5,357m), Nepal’s list of mountains is long which includes many technical peaks, easy trekking peaks, and high hiking peaks. Thousands of beginners, semi-professionals, and professional climbers come to Nepal every 12 months to climb one more mountain. The beginners reach here to learn basic mountaineering skills by climbing the trekking peaks. There are several trekking peaks and amongst that the Lobuche Peak is one of the most popular. And, this article will rotate around and around Lobuche Peak Climbing. Let’s jump in.

Lobuche Peak is a well-known trekking peak of Nepal located in the Khumbu region. Consisting of two faces; Lobuche East(6,119m) and Lobuche West(6,145m), the Lobuche peak lies just above the Lobuche village and Khumbu Glacier. Peaks like Mount Everest and Lhotse lie just 13.5 Km east from the Lobuche Peak. Of two faces, the Lobuche East is an easily climbable peak and thus regarded as the trekking peak. On the other side, Lobuche West is less frequently climbable and more technical and hence listed as the expedition peak. So, Lobuche East(6,119m) is the summit point of Lobuche Peak Climbing, not the Lobuche West.

Lobuche East Peak climbing is the best plan for beginners to tick the very first peak climb of their life. This not too difficult trekking peak offers the beautiful but learnable climbing experience. Climbers summiting Lobuche East can finally move up towards another mountain. Reaching the Lobuche top is not an end of the expedition but the start of many more climbs.

Furthermore, Lobuche Peak Climbing arranges the awestruck mountain views along the way and from the top. Being very near to the Mahalangur section, this expedition gets you the vision of Everest along with Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Pumori, and several others.

We have added more about the Lobuche Peak expedition down below in the headings of major highlights, climbing route, detailed itinerary, difficulty level, best time with some Faqs also. Go and read those out to get ready for the expedition with us, GOOD KARMA TREKKING Nepal.

Your first day has gone well and it is now time for another similar trekking day. On this day, you will stretch out to reach the hub of the Everest region, Namche Bazaar(3446m). While trekking today, you will cross many suspension bridges colored with prayer flags and gompas. After leaving Phakding behind, you will sail ahead via scenic trails of the Everest region. The trekking will become more and more fun with every step ahead. On the way today, you will pass major Sherpa settlements like Bengar, Monjo. Monjo village is the entrance to a UNESCO world heritage site, Sagarmatha National Park.

Still a few km to reach Namche, you will receive glimpses of Mt Everest, Lhotse, and other high peaks of the Khumbu region. Moving forward through several ups and downs then comes the final ascent to reach Namche Bazaar. Heading straight to the higher areas without acclimating your body to new heights raises the chances of altitude sickness. So, it is better to stay around Namche before heading higher towards the Lobuche Peak. On this day, you will involve yourself in hiking around Namche and near attractions. Namche Bazaar in itself is a big market with many shops, restaurants, cafes, and some museums to explore.

There is one more option to do while your body starts acclimatizing, a hike to the Everest View Hotel. This hotel is one of the highest placed hotels in the world which sits at an altitude of 3,880m. As its name suggests, this hotel will serve an exquisite view of Mt Everest and some other peaks while you enjoy your lunch. Thereafter, you will return to the lodge of Namche for a night stay.

After a wonderful time around Namche, it is time to leave it behind to reach Tengboche. You will start the trek by descending through Namche towards Ohunki. All over the route, you will be rewarded with white mountain views including Everest and Ama Dablam. You will reach Phunki Tenga after some hours of easy downhill trekking. Then after trekking for some more hours you’ll start to see the largest monastery of the region, Tengboche Monastery.

This monastery offers a blessing to every adventurer that walks through Tengboche’s trail. Decorated with many colorful flags and prayer wheels from outside, this monastery hosts awesome views of mountains in the north. Everest, Lobuche, Thamserku, Ama Dablam, and many other peaks are glanceable in one sight from here. Not only that, but you can also celebrate a time of being at one of the largest Sherpa settlements.

You’ll wake up with morning prayers of the Tengboche monastery and what a blissful morning that will be. After breakfast, you will kick-off the trails to reach Dingboche. The trek will be through lush trees of rhododendron and conifers along with mountain views at distant. Following the forest, you will descend to reach the river bed of Imja Khola.

And trekking over the Imja Khola via a bridge, you head up a slope trail that takes you to the Pangboche. You will take a break to explore the Pangboche village which also has a famous Pangboche Monastery. From the village, you will get visions of various Everest region mountains. After that, you move forward to Dingboche through Imja valley near to Lobuche River. Heading up from the riverbank arrives Dingboche.

A day of rest is well-deserved. So instead of hiking the trail, we’ll stay back at the village and relax. To make the day productive and acclimatize, we’ll go on a trip to Nagarjun.
The whole idea of acclimatization is to walk higher and sleep lower. So after having breakfast, we’ll leave for the trek to Nagarjuna Peak. To start, we’ll ascend steep hills with rocks and boulders which makes the trek a bit difficult.

After hiking for a good 2-3 hours, we’ll finally get to Nagarjun, one of the major tourist attractions in the Sherpa Valley. It comes with a magnificent view of lofty mountains, steep-sided valleys, and rocky hills. Down the peak is a small settlement, mostly lodges and guest houses to accommodate hikers.

we’ll get back to the trail and walk the way down to the village. On the way back, we can see lots of ancient Tibetan monasteries and Chortens, which look stunning. Overnight stay in the tea house.

You’ll start the 8th day’s trek of the Lobuche Peak Climbing with a plan to reach Lobuche before nightfall. Now altitudes have reached around 5,000m and this part of trekking can be a bit more difficult than the past ones. You will move through a rough and steep trail to arrive at Duglha. One more steep climb takes you towards Chuki Lahara.

Then from Lahara, you will enjoy walking forward by memorial stupas for the lost ones. Now it will be a walk over the moraines of Khumbu Glacier to make it to Lobuche village. This village is the nearest settlement to Lobuche peak and from there you can take a look at various high peaks including Lobuche peak.

we get our lunch. Subsequently, we head towards Everest Base Camp leaving our backpack there. Gradually walking upward via moraine of Khumbu Glacier, we reach our most awaited destination-EBC.

One shall get the vivid panoramic views of mount Khumbuste, mount Pumori and mount Nuptse keeping Mt. Everest in the background. Standing here trekkers get the mixed sensation of shifting emotions that a dream has come true.

With the mesmerizing view of Khumbu Icefall, we capture some charming views around. Spending some time on the base of the tallest peak of the world, we get back to Gorak Shep.

Today’s hike to the famous viewpoint of Kalapatthar, which is located at an elevation of 5644m. It is the main highlight of the Lobuche Peak Climbing adventure, returning then to Lobuche. Our morning departs early from the guesthouse and moves toward Kalapatthar. It is really worth going up to the top, even though the trail may be difficult. One gets a stunning panorama at the top: the mountains all around, with Everest standing tall in the distance.

Having captured all these breathtaking views, we will start making our way back. The way down will be less strenuous but needs to be negotiated with care for its rocky trails. We will come across Lobuche in the next steps. This stage of the trek allows us to go gently and embrace the beauty surrounding us. From the lush valleys to alpine landscapes and towering peaks are beautiful scenarios that inspire us into motion in this high-altitude environment.

When we reach Lobuche, we will overnight at a guesthouse. Since the height is a little lower compared to Kalapatthar, this point offers an opportunity for some welcome rest and recovery. We recharge tonight for the next stages, as tomorrow brings us closer to the actual ascent of Lobuche Peak.

The trek duration is low around 3 to 4 hours but the slope is the thing that will make it long. Your team members will install a tent where you can take rest.

Later around the afternoon, your climbing guide will present some climbing skills and gear usage tips, tricks. This is all for making you competitive for the big day tomorrow, Lobuche Peak Climbing. After that, you will have enough sleep after lunch as you have to start early in the morning.

Additional Info

The journey starts with a flight to Lukla from Kathmandu and then trek through villages like Phakding, Namche, Tengboche, Dingboche, and finally Lobuche. From Lobuche, the routes get separated where the EBC route heads towards Gorakshep, and Lobuche Peak’s path moves to Lobuche Base Camp. Everest Base Camp is just 8.5km southwest from the Lobuche village, that is why Everest Base Camp Trek is added too often in most of the Lobuche Peak itineraries.

Thereafter, Lobuche Peak climbing trail approaches the Lobuche Base Camp which resides at an altitude of 4,950m. After the Base Camp, the route heads upward just over the Khumbu Glacier to reach Lobuche High Camp(5,400m). The nights after Lobuche village have to be spent in the tented camps.

Lobuche Peak summit is only one hard stretch away from the high camp. The path turns steeper and steeper after the high camp where the summit track finds its way through a sharp snow ridge. Then, the route turns towards the north-west of the peak where some snow bumps and notches lie. After that is the final summit climb over a steep part towards the summit point.

Lobuche Peak is one of those trekking peaks of Nepal which is slightly more difficult than other similar peaks. This expedition involves steep and high altitude trekking and hard climb. Before you start Lobuche Peak climbing, you have to trek all the way from Lukla to Lobuche Base Camp. For that part of trekking, you will require an average of 5 to 6 hours of trekking per day. The hiking trails are not plain but steep and tiring. Beginners who have not trekked before can face some problems while trekking days. The trek is around the higher parts of the Khumbu region so a foreigner can struggle with altitude sickness.

Once you cross Lobuche village, the trail starts to get rough, steady, and rocky. Some nights until return to the village are meant to be spent in the camp tent and have to eat food cooked by the helper there. This can be a little difficult situation for those who have not climbed a mountain before. The rough trails get steeper and steeper as you head towards Lobuche’s Base Camp. Sometimes while ascending, you need to use mountaineering gears like rope, ice axe to move ahead. Then comes the summit day on which you have to climb the Lobuche East and head back to the base camp. A total of around 8 to 10 hours will be required to do so on the summit day.

Summit climb is also not easy as said. There is a steep and snowy section just a few climbs below the summit which is sloped in around 45°. This particular part is as lengthy as 50m and it can be more difficult than other sections. Beginners face more problems at this part of Lobuche Peak climbing and they have to give a real test of their skills. Other than these facts written above, the Lobuche Peak is a doable trekking peak. But, embarkers have to have prior mountaineering training, practice, and knowledge.
