Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes Trek from Jiri – 26 days is a budget-friendly trekking package of ours that leads travelers to the lap of Mt. Everest (8,848.86 m/29,028 ft), explores the stunning Gokyo valley, and crosses the challenging Cho La pass. We have designed this special Everest Base Camp trek without flying to Lukla package for individuals who cannot fly to Lukla because of their personal reasons.

This package is the combination of the classic Everest Base Camp Trek and Gokyo Lakes Trek. To reach the Khumbu region, we will begin trekking from the Solu region. We can say the lower part of the Everest region. The trail ascends through dense forests and picturesque villages, crossing many passes and suspension bridges.

You will get to see the lifestyle and culture of Sherpas during the Everest Base Camp Trek via Jiri. Visit ancient monasteries along the way and witness breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains like Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Kondge, Thamserku, Makalu, Cho Oyu, etc. Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes Trek from Jiri is an adventurous and satisfying venture in the Himalayas.

Gokyo valleys house the sacred Gokyo Lakes that range from 4,700 m to 5,000 m (15,400 ft to 16,400 ft). These are the highest freshwater lake systems in the world. From Gokyo, the trail climbs the Cho La pass (5,420 m/17,782 ft) and joins the base camp Everest trekking route.

Best time to do Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes Trek from Jiri

Like any other trek, March to April (spring) and October to November (autumn) are the best time to do this trek because of stable weather, moderate climate, and clear views.

You can also do this trek in summer/monsoon (May to September) with us. The temperature ranges from 18°C to 5°C. During monsoon, the morning and night can get cold. Therefore, do carry a few warm pieces with you.

Detailed Itinerary

Land at the international airport in Kathmandu. Our Good Karma team will welcome you to the airport and drive you to the hotel. In the evening, we will have a welcome dinner and prepare for the trek.

After a scrumptious breakfast, we will load our luggage and begin driving towards Bhandara. The drive will be scenic and gets a little bumpy from time to time.

Leaving Bhandara behind, you will begin trekking on a downhill path that leads to a Likhu Khola. Kinja is situated on the bank of the river. While descending, you get to see the stunning view of the valley.

The trail from Kinja ascends through farmhouses and terraced fields to Sete. Further, trekking through lush rhododendron forests, you will ascend to Lamjura La, which offers a breathtaking view of Pikey Peak.

The trail offers the first glimpse of Mt. Everest today. Crossing the stream beyond Junbesi, ascend to the slope of the forest. Mountains like Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Thamserku, and Mera Peak are seen along the way from here onwards. Reach Salung and descend to Ringmo. The next point is Trakshindo La (pass). Descend through dense forests from here to reach Nunthala.

The route passes by Khari Khola, a famous Sherpa village. Crossing a suspension bridge, you will continue to walk for a few hours to reach Bupsa, situated on a hilltop.

Gradually, trek towards Chauri Kharka or Phakding village, which is just below the Lukla village. Walking up & down following the route, soon you will join the busy Khumbu trekking trail.

To reach Namche Bazar, you will walk through dense forests and cross many suspension bridges. The route goes through remote mountain settlements like Jorsale, Monjo, etc. You will take a short break at Chauteri and ascend steeply for one and half hours to reach Namche Bazar.

Today is our first rest day in Namche Bazar. We will go on a hike to the Everest View Hotel and later explore the Namche Bazar. There are many shops, cafes, and museums around the village, where you can go.

 

The route from Namche Bazaar to Dhole is gorgeous. You can see fantastic views of Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Everest, Thamserku, and many other mountains. You will be following the trail to Mong La Pass (3,972 m) and descend to Khumbila. From here, trek on a downhill route to Dudh Koshi River and reach Phortse Thenga. Further, the trail goes through lush forests and green pastures to Dhole.

To reach Machhermo, you will walk uphill following a steep route through Lhabarma and Luza. On the way, you will get the refreshing scent of scrub junipers. The views along the way are fabulous

You will ascend to a scenic ridge and walk through a narrow valley. The path gradually opens up, and the trail meets Pangkha. Walk down to the riverbank of Dudh Koshi and follow a steep route that goes along the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa glacier. Passing by the first and second lakes, you will reach the picturesque Gokyo village located at the bank of the third lake.

We will begin the day at a leisure pace and later hike to the fifth lake called Gokyo Lake. The lake is stunning and surrounded by snow-capped mountains. After exploring the surrounding lakes, return to the village and spend the rest of the day with locals.

 

Today, wake up early in the morning and hike to Gokyo Ri (5,357 m) to see a breathtaking sunrise and spectacular mountain views. Later, we will begin trekking toward Thangna. It is going to be entirely a downhill walk today.

Today, it is going to be a difficult and long walk. So, get ready and begin trekking towards Cho La pass. The trail will be steep & slippery and involves walking on Cho la Glacier. Upon reaching the top of the pass, you can see a jaw-dropping mountain panorama. Further, the trail descends to Dzongla, where you will be spending the night.

Continue walking alongside the Khumbu glacier on a smooth path. After three hours of walking, you will reach Lobuche. From here, the trail ascends further to Gorak Shep for the night stay.

To reach Everest Base Camp, you will walk along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu glacier and reach the base camp. The base camp is marked with prayer flags and rock written about the place. After taking some pictures here, return to Gorak Shep to spend the night.

We will begin walking early in the morning to the Kala Patthar. The walk is tough, and the climate will be cold. Make sure to wear warm layers. Kala Patthar is a famous viewpoint that offers a fantastic sunrise and Everest view. After enjoying the views, we will descend to Pheriche via Lobuche.

We are almost at the end of the trip. From Pheriche, the trail goes through dense forests of rhododendron. You will cross multiple suspension bridges along the way and pass by the biggest monastery of the Khumbu region in Tengboche. Spend the remaining day in Namche Bazar resting.
