BREAKING NEWS: Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 Bookings Open – Why 2026 is a “Once-in-12-Years” Opportunity
Namaste and Tashi Delek from Kathmandu!
At Good Karma Trekking, we are thrilled to share the most significant update for spiritual seekers and adventurers in over a decade. The official schedules for the 2026 Kailash Mansarovar Yatra have been released, and this is not just an ordinary year—2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse in the Tibetan Calendar.
If you have been waiting for a sign to embark on this holy pilgrimage, this is it.

Why 2026 is Special: The Year of the Horse
According to Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Mount Kailash is believed to have been formed in the Year of the Horse. Because of this, 2026 is considered an incredibly auspicious year to visit.
Ancient legends state that one circumambulation (Kora) around Mount Kailash during the Year of the Horse is equivalent to completing 12 Koras in any other year.
This rare astrological event occurs only once every 12 years (the last one was in 2014). Consequently, we expect unprecedented demand from pilgrims worldwide. Permits and accommodation in the remote regions of Tibet will be extremely limited.
Key Dates: Full Moon Yatra 2026
For those seeking the ultimate spiritual experience, performing the Kora or taking a holy dip in Lake Mansarovar during the Full Moon (Purnima) is the pinnacle of the journey.
Based on the 2026 lunar calendar, here are the estimated Full Moon dates to target for your itinerary:
May 31, 2026 (Saga Dawa Festival – Highly Recommended)
June 30, 2026
July 29, 2026 (Guru Purnima)
August 27, 2026 (Janai Purnima)
September 26, 2026
Note: You should plan to arrive in Kathmandu at least 4–5 days prior to these dates for visa processing and preparation.
Critical Travel Updates for 2026
As a leading Kailash operator in Nepal since 2010, Good Karma Trekking wants to ensure you have the correct, factual information regarding logistics:
- The Route Status
Overland via Kyirong (Kerung): This remains the most popular and cost-effective route. The road conditions on the Chinese side are excellent.
Helicopter via Simikot/Hilsa: The quickest route for those with limited time, offering a scenic flight over the Karnali river.
Lhasa via Gonggar Airport: For those who wish to visit the Potala Palace and acclimatize gradually before driving to Kailash.
- Visa & Permits (The “Group Visa” Rule) Travelers entering Tibet from Nepal cannot use a standard Chinese tourist visa issued in their home country. You must obtain a Group Visa from the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu.
Process: We handle this entire process for you.
